Abstract Flower Paintings Perfect For Your Home

If you're someone who loves to add a pop of colour to your home or office, you've probably scoured the internet for unique artwork that speaks to you. While landscape or portrait paintings are always a reliable choice, have you ever considered abstract flower paintings? These masterpieces capture the essence of nature in its purest and most artistic form, allowing you to get lost in its composition, colour and feelings these pieces evoke. These are must-have for anyone looking to add a touch of creativity to their space.

When it comes to interior design and personal home decor, abstract flower paintings can be a game-changer. If you're looking to create a statement wall, adding a large abstract flower painting can become the focal point of the room. You can also coordinate the colours in the painting with the rest of the room elements, such as curtains, rugs, or throw pillows. Alternatively, you can choose smaller pieces that complement other art pieces in the room. In a bedroom, an abstract flower painting can create a serene and calming atmosphere that can help you relax after a long day.

What are Abstract Flower Paintings?

Abstract flower paintings are created using non-representational art techniques, depicting flowers in a stylised and simplified form. The emphasis is on colour and form, rather than on any realistic representation. Artists may use bold shapes, vivid colours, or intricate patterns to create a unique interpretation of flowers. I create expressive movement, texture and layering, using spatulas and brushes to build layers of colour, that allows your eye to seek deeply into the piece, and get lost in the depiction of floral shapes and soft tones. You will discover something new about it every time you look at it and that’s why I love creating these pieces!

The History of Abstract Flower Paintings

The first signs of abstract flower paintings can be traced back to the Impressionist movement in the late 19th century, where artists experimented with colour and light. Instead of using traditional techniques to paint flowers, they used bold brushstrokes to capture the beauty of nature. Abstract expressionism emerged in the 1940s, where artists such as Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock (one of my personal favourites and inspirations) created beautiful renditions of flowers. Since then, abstract flower paintings have continued to evolve, inspiring artists just like me to create their own unique interpretations.

Many painters have explored the world of abstract flower paintings and have made their mark on the art world. Wassily Kandinsky, an early pioneer of abstract art, often created complex abstract flower paintings that looked like intricate puzzles. Georgia O'Keeffe, known for her large flower paintings, abstracted flowers with zoomed-in perspectives resulting in breathtaking pieces. Finally, Kazimir Malevich, a prominent figure in the Russian avant-garde, produced bold and geometric flower works in his signature style.

About Me

As an artist located in the rural town of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, I’m surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside and nature. This inspires me and my artwork so flowers and nature are my perfect muse. Using intuition and emotion, as well as my passion for nature as my inspiration and my love for classic abstract artists such as Matisse, Picasso and Jackson Pollock inspire my abstract flower paintings.

Botanical designs are not just one of my personal favourites, they have been sprucing up interiors for years, from fifties pastel florals to the large bold prints of the noughties! Flowers have made us swoon for centuries, bringing colour, energy and softness to our lives and my own love of florals has blossomed over the years. So, whether you’re looking for a piece that’s bright or a more subdued colour palette, I hope I have created a piece of artwork that will work in your space.
